The Iraq Study Group Report
James A. Baker, Lee H. Hamilton et. al. | The Iraq Study Group | 2006-12-06
The Iraq Study Group was a panel that was convened by Congress and the Bush administration in 2006 to examine the way forward in Iraq.
The assessment was, at the agreement of Congress and administration, facilitated by the U.S. Institute of Peace, the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, the Center for the Study of the Presidency, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker and former Democratic Congressman Lee H. Hamilton co-chaired the group, and selected it's other eight members.
"Our most important recommendations call for new and enhanced diplomatic and political efforts in Iraq and the region, and a change in the primary mission of U.S. forces in Iraq that will enable the United States to begin to move its combat forces out of Iraq responsibly," reads the executive summary of the report.
The report was released Dec. 6, 2006.
