Dane Smith was U.S. Ambassador to Guinea from 1990 to 1993 and is the author of "U.S.-Guinea Relations During the Rise and Fall of Charles Taylor" (Journal of Modern African Studies, 2006). He is adjunct professor at American University's School of International Service.
