Daniel McDowell

Daniel McDowell is an associate professor of political science at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. His research focuses on the political economy of the international financial and monetary systems. His book, “Brother, Can you Spare a Billion? The United States, the IMF, and the International Lender of Last Resort,” explains why the U.S. sometimes provides unilateral “bailouts” to foreign economies experiencing financial crises. He has published peer-reviewed research on other topics, including China’s efforts to internationalize the yuan, in International Studies Quarterly, Review of International Organizations and New Political Economy. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, The Christian-Science Monitor, and The Washington Times.
