Matthew Chitwood is a writer based in Yunnan, China, and a fellow at the Institute of Current World Affairs. His work has appeared in Foreign Policy, The New Republic and the Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications. His research and writing focus on rural perspectives on life and the world as well as Yunnan’s transformation spurred by its economic and infrastructure development.
