Simon Philpott is a senior lecturer in international politics at Newcastle University. His research interests include the politics of transitional justice in East Timor and Australia-Indonesia relations. He served as a United Nations-accredited observer of the 1999 general election in Indonesia and of the 1999 independence referendum in East Timor.
