Valerie Hopkins is an American journalist based in the Balkans. She has also reported from across Europe and in Africa. She previously worked for the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN, where she was an opinions and features editor, and was a daily web editor for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project in Sarajevo, where investigations she worked on were finalists for the Daniel Pearl Investigative Reporting Award and the Global Shining Light Award. Her writing and reporting has appeared in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Politico, Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera, the Guardian, Reuters, Mother Jones and more.
