Today at WPR, we’re covering Iran’s space program and Nicaragua’s slide into autocracy.
But first, here’s our take on today’s top story.
U.S.-Middle East: The U.S. military carried out airstrikes Thursday against a weapons warehouse in Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its proxies. It was the second round of retaliatory strikes in two weeks, after the first failed to deter Iran-backed militias in Syria and Iraq from continuing to launch drone attacks on U.S. bases, which they have done since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. The strikes also come a day after a U.S. military surveillance drone was shot down off the coast of Yemen by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. (New York Times)
