Britain’s beleaguered chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng, was fired on Friday as Prime Minister Liz Truss prepared to announce a large-scale retreat over a package of unfunded tax cuts that have rattled financial markets, causing a political crisis that has threatened her political survival.
